GCSAA member, Muhammad Ali, golf course superintendent at William Land Golf Course in Sacramento, Calif., recently traveled to Pakistan with James Baird, Ph.D., turfgrass specialist at the University of California, Riverside, and 23-year GCSAA member, for the first-ever First Green field trip in Pakinstan at the Karachi Golf Club.

The event brought together close to 15 students, most of whom are children of the golf course maintenance team members. Owais Khan, five-year GCSAA member, golf course superintendent at Karachi Golf Club and field trip host, organized four interactive lab stations for the day: a greens mowing demonstration; cup-cutting; stimp meter utilization; and a moisture sensors (POGO) demonstration.

They also had support from Hamza Nisar, a local Toro and Club Car representative, who helped make the event a success. Baird also actively participated, engaging with the students throughout the day. At the end of the event, the students signed the First Green flag, and Karachi Golf Club generously provided snacks for the participants.

“It was a truly memorable and impactful day for everyone involved,” Ali said.
