I wanted my students to participate in a First Green field trip so they could see a real life application of what we had been learning in class. I wanted my students to see how our local golf course was putting environmental science to work to benefit the course’s needs and the needs of the local community. I was very impressed with how Steve traced how the parking lot at our school and the street drains along our downhill walking journey to Glendale Golf Club were all connected. Students learned about the holding pond that filtered the water before it entered into Kelsey Creek.

I am writing this letter to recommend the First Green field trip program to elementary teachers and their students. My fifth graders visited Westminster National Golf Course in November 2016. Mr. Kraushofer, General Manager at Westminster National, and other area golf course superintendents, organized several STEM related activities for my students. Each activity was led by a superintendent and provided hands-on experiences relevant to our curriculum. I highly recommend a First Green field trip to other fifth grade classes.
